A picture says a thousand words...or is it five? Have students represent sets of images numerically in number sentences. They examine three sets of images and represent them numerically by writing the number sentence below. While they can count for the two addends, the sum is not pictured. Of course, resourceful learners may just count up the two addends, but let them reach this strategy on their own.
