Why Use Seat Belts?

Students explore reasons why using a seat belt is a safe choice while riding in a car. In this physics/safety instructional activity, students set up and observe a doll with and without a seat belt moving down a ramp in a dynamics cart. Collision points, speed, and the angle of the ramp are recorded and compared to the distance a "passenger" is thrown from a cart.

Lauren H.
I have used several hands-on lessons that have helped to engage my students in topics that may have been mundane to them. I do not have a text book or resources for many of the topics that I teach, and it is nice to find so many resources in one place.
