This early Gothic Revival cottage was designed by Alexander Jackson Davis in 1845 for William J. Rotch (1819-1893), scion of New Bedford's leading whaling family. It exhibits features not found in other surviving similar works by Davis, and received wide public notice after its construction. The cottage is a private residence and is not open to the public.
