Pioneer America: Journey West

Students research American pioneers and their expansion west. In this American pioneers lesson, students learn about manifest destiny and the story of Lewis and Clark. Students work in groups to brainstorm a list of items they would take as pioneer Americans traveling West and compare their lists to actual travel items during the period. Students visit several website to learn about the actual journey. Students then write a monologue from a pioneer's perspective.
