Second graders write poems based on locomotive skills, such as hop, skip, or run. They read their poems to the class and they act out the action word by performing it to a finish line.

Second graders count by fives and tens to 100 as they jump rope. They share ropes and one counts as one jumps. They may be asked to count by twos and even ones or double jump.

Students research the obstacles and daily challenges that a successful person had to overcome. They create a book or mobile based on the research.

Students investigate the water cycle and evaporation. They study the porosity and permeability of groundwater, and the capillary action in soil in this unit.
