Eighth graders explore figurative language through the study of picture books. In this figurative language lesson, 8th graders listen to books and chart the figurative language that they hear.  Students discuss examples in groups.

Middle schoolers identify the parts of a flowering plant and their functions. They describe its life cycle as well. They compare the parts of the plant to the roles that are needed in a democracy.

Pupils identify different types of literary terms in poems. They read different poems and create a packet summarizing them. They write a poem of their own and a biography of one of their favorite poets.

High schoolers describe visual techniques used by artists to convey a sense of power and importance.

Third graders log on to the net, type in the address for Scholastic and browse the subjects for the week. They select one area of interest and generate five interesting facts about the article.

Fifth graders examine and analyze various poems by Edward Hersey Richards, Robert Frost, and Emily Dickinson. They explore similes, and write journal entry responses.
