Students sit in a circle with their bears from home, each child introduces their bear, then students examine all the bears and think of one way that they can be sorted.

Students are read the story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear". They create their own bear painting out of chocolate pudding. They are allowed to bring in their own stuffed animal to make the first day better for them.

Students complete first day of school activities. Through instructor modeling and demonstration, they become acquainted with the rules and procedures for the classroom and school. Students create a book of their first day experience.
