In this slavery lesson, students read the "Emancipation Proclamation," and letters written by Abraham Lincoln and John Washington (a former slave). Learners identify the key ideas of the proclamation and use the knowledge gained from the letters to write their own series of letters that might have been written between Lincoln and Washington about their ideologies and personal interests.
