How can a canned food drive be connected to math? It's as simple as counting and organizing the cans! Children demonstrate their ability to sort non-perishable foods into categories that include soup cans, vegetable cans, boxed items, and other items. Once separated, pupils are instructed to count their items and display the data on a class chart using image cards. Image cards represent five items each, and are included in the lesson. Have your class calculate the amount of people that will benefit from the drive, assuming one item can feed two people. Turn a good cause into a great learning opportunity!
