Do Dea: Art Appreciation: Unit 6: Architecture and Design

Curated by ACT

In this sixth unit of a course on Art Appreciation, students learn about the history of architecture, including ancient Greek and Roman works. They will learn about Frank Lloyd Wright and about Islamic architecture. They will also look at ancient structures such as the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Ishtar Gate in Mesopotamia, and they will compare modern structures to ones built long ago. The third section of this unit examines design movements, the role of designers and planners in a developing community, and the impact of an increasing population on city planning. A final assignment in this unit has students design a functional object or a community.
