Educator Voices: Grade 3 Research Skills Unit

Curated by ACT

Describes the process teachers went through to create a lesson unit where students first brainstormed what it means to do research, then were tasked with choosing a topic, researching it, and presenting on it several days later. The lesson unit evolved from this point, and the class brainstormed questions they could ask about historical figures and chose an individual to research They learned research techniques, how to take notes in various formats, and how to present their research. Finally, they did an independent research project and worked on self-management skills and presented their projects to an audience.
