test preparation, Standardized Tests, Study Skills, reading nonfiction, reading strategies, reading comprehension, textual evidence, textual analysis, literacy, word meanings, informational texts

Instructional Ideas

  • Allow some time for discussion after the results of the test are returned or viewed; you can go over test-taking skills for Common Core tests
  • Reserve a day or two in the computer lab to practice with the online version to give your pupils the opportunity to play with and ask questions about the online test-taking environment

Classroom Considerations

  • The online version does take advantage of the environment by adapting the format of some of the questions
  • Depending on your printing capabilities, it may prove difficult to print the large-print assessment included in the materials
  • With the online version, pupils can view their scores for the easily-graded questions right away; these do not show the answers, just the number correct, and can be shared

Pros

  • Both the online and paper versions come with answer keys
  • The answer keys show the relationship between specific Common Core standards and questions
  • The online version is a useful tool for supporting learners just starting out in an online testing environment

Cons

  • None
