Instructional Ideas

  • Invite the school counselors to be part of the lesson—ask them to lead an age-appropriate discussion about feelings in a way that makes everyone feel safe and welcome to share
  • Take brain-breaks as needed—when class members need to refresh their attention span, sing a song from your grade level's lessons
  • Create anchor charts with the lessons' sentence frames—display charts for learners to reference while they speak

Classroom Considerations

  • The targeted language proficiency level is beginning
  • This unit is the eighth in a series belonging to a larger 10-week unit
  • Be sensitive towards those that are not as eager to share their feelings

Pros

  • Reaches multiple intelligences
  • Encourages participants to speak openly and honestly about their feelings

Cons

  • The plan's format is small, crowded, and ununiform
  • Attachments are poor quality
