# How Do You Subtract Mixed Fractions with Different Denominators by Converting to Improper Fractions?

The first step in subtracting mixed numbers is to change them into improper fractions. Second, make sure the denominators are the same. If they are not the same, then find a common denominator. Make the proper conversions to the numerator if changes were made to the denominator. Now subtraction can be made. Don't forget to change the improper fraction back in to a mixed number!
