This Introduce Vocabulary: Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain (Aardema) lesson plan also includes:
The African plains come alive as scholars learn vocabulary in context through Verna Aardema's story Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain (tip: this strategy can be applied to any book). Precede reading by introducing the new words pupils will hear; you'll find and outline here for browse, pierced, slender, and tend. Kids raise their hands when they hear one and answer comprehension questions for each of these words, connecting to everyday ideas. Decide whether you will complete these during, before, or after the reading. Check out the graphic organizers, which would be helpful for all skill levels.
