Join Franklin the turtle at school as youngsters learn new vocabulary in the context of Paulette Bourgeois' story (or apply this strategy to any book). Scholars are acquainted with new words before reading and raise hands when vocabulary (artist, boast, clutch, offer, and worried) comes up in the story. There are comprehension questions for each of these words to get scholars making personal connections. Check out the graphic organizers for visual learners. Although there is a video of this text on YouTube, it doesn't have the same vocabulary.
