Go on a walking adventure through Irene Smalls' touching book Jonathan and His Mommy, an excellent resource to practice vocabulary in context. Go over the walking-themed terms (humongous, pace, leap, and zigzag) learners will hear before reading it to them. Reinforce active listening by asking kids to raise hands when they hear one of these words. Are they noticing context clues? Strengthen comprehension through sets of questions, unique to each word, that prompt connections to familiar concepts. Make sure to check out the graphic organizers as well!
