Lab: Percent of Composition of KClO3

High schoolers find the percent of oxygen in potassium chlorate. In this percent composition lesson plan, students heat a solution of potassium chlorate using a catalyst, manganese dioxide, to decompose the potassium chlorate and release oxygen. High schoolers use the initial mass of the potassium chlorate and the final mass to determine the amount of oxygen lost. Through calculations they determine the percent of oxygen in potassium chlorate.

I am a special eduction teacher at a High School in Texas. I teach 45 subjects in 7 periods. Without Lesson Planet, I would drown just in the preparation. Thanks Lesson Planet.
