Philanthropic Literature: Quilt to Freedom

A reading of Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt by Deborah Hopkinson launches this study of slavery, freedom, and the Underground Railroad. After a discussion of the importance of showing respect for others and of helping each other in difficult times, class members assemble their own quilt. Richly detailed, the lesson includes assessments and extensions.

I just completed my student teaching in Newark New Jersey. Creating unit plans became a breeze once I joined Lesson Planet. There was a plethora of resources for every CCSS. Thank you. I had veteran teachers asking me where did I get my resources. I am now teaching at my cooperative school. Yeah!!!!!!!!!
