Real-Life History: Looking at Our Community

Spend several days with your class exploring local history. Learners brainstorm and categorize sources of historical information as primary or secondary; collect and present artifacts from family/community; construct a definition of community; survey how needs are met in your community; interview community members; analyze paintings by Robert Harris (find artwork that represents your area); and create a profile of their community. Modify for diversity/immigrant populations.
