Don't have a keyboard in the classroom but still want to teach piano theory? No problem! Use the images on the learning exercise, or print out the larger one in the materials section.

Instructional Ideas

  • Play the songs first, demonstrating how you play along on the paper keyboard. If possible, allow learners to "play" the notes as they listen to the songs as a group

Classroom Considerations

  • The resources suggests having kids sing the songs aloud. Consider your classroom set-up to determine if this would be distracting to others

Pros

  • There is a focus on the names of keys, however there are no sharps and flats introduced

Cons

  • Watch for spelling errors. For example, "My Country 'Tis of Thee" has the apostrophe in the wrong place
