Use a tape diagram to emulate the steps of solving equations. The 23rd installment in a 25-part unit presents two-step linear equation problems to solve. Pupils use tape diagrams to solve the problems along with linear equations. To round out the lesson plan, scholars move on to solving equations and justifying their steps using properties of equality.

Instructional Ideas
- Use the tape diagrams to assist with writing the equations
- Line up the steps used in the tape diagram with the algebraic steps that do the same operation
Classroom Considerations
- Pupils should know the properties of equality
Pros
- Shows each step with the property that allows that step
- Uses an example to summarize the lesson concepts
Cons
- None
