Beginning with a brief history of our 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt, then followed by a discussion of his interest in nature, young scientists take to the outdoors to locate and observe local plants and insects. Scholars return to their classroom and record their found specimen, all before sending everything back to its natural habitat.

  • If you live near a natural history museum, plan a field trip to explore what it has to offer 
  • Conduct the lesson near President's Day
  • Give pupils a composition notebook to record their observation—direct them to draw, label, and write what they see
