It is key to the learning process to make everything a child with visual impairments does as tactile as possible. After reading Anne of Green Gables, the class discusses her life events in order to make a tactile time line. They choose six major events from her life, use a brailler or print to label the events, and then construct a tactile representation for each. This is a great idea that can be used with any book. Try having the class create tactile representations as they study character traits or when summarizing a text.
