Middle and high schoolers consider the characteristics that make for a great leader. For example, they investigate Wilma Mankiller, the first female Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. Researchers read a short biography, watch a video, read excerpts from her autobiography, and discuss what makes her a great leader. To end the lesson, groups use what they have learned to craft a "Shark Tank" style proposal for a three-minute self-help project that would serve their community.
