Instructional Ideas

  • Integrate this lesson into an upper-elementary or middle school geometry lesson on the area of polygons
  • Have students to work with a partner or in small groups completing part B of the included worksheet, allowing them to discuss different approaches to solving the problems

Classroom Considerations

  • This lesson seems to be designed for use in a bilingual English/Chinese math class, but it does not require knowledge of the Chinese language
  • Despite the title of this resource, the concept of volume is not addressed in this lesson

Pros

  • Teacher notes are provided to support the implementation of this lesson
  • Includes a student handout with both the English and Chinese words for different geometric terms
  • Worksheet offers a wide variety of geometry problems that thoroughly assess students' understanding of area
  • An answer key is provided for the practice worksheet
