Purchasing Items Using the Next Dollar Strategy

Drill and practice is the method of teaching for today. Special needs pupils practice rounding to the next dollar value when purchasing an item at the store. They are shown flash cards with a monetary value, they then have 3-5 seconds to count their money to the next dollar. Next, they put practice into action as they buy an item with minimal assistance at the store. The combination of solid drills practice and real application make a good special education lesson.
