Set up youngsters for fraction success years down the road with this focus on quarters. They begin with examining five shapes that have been equally segmented into four parts. Using one example as reference, learners shade a quarter of each shape by coloring in one section. Next, they look at pre-shaded figures to determine whether or not the shaded region represents a quarter of the total shape. Again, there are examples in this section. Finally, pupils apply this concept to food, coloring a fourth of a pizza, tomato, and jelly roll.
