Introduce your budding readers to the dictionary. They read a brief introduction on dictionary features, observing pictures and examples of one-syllable words they could find in a dictionary. Using the word list, they determine which would be nearest the front of the dictionary and which would be the last word. They also create a list of animal names from a set of pictures, putting the words into alphabetical order. Spelling for this last part can be found in the previous list of words.
