Instructional Ideas

  • Use this assessment as a chance for students to learn and practice different test-taking strategies
  • After the class has completed the practice assessment, go through as a whole group and correct the test
  • Develop student writing samples for the class to analyze as a whole group before asking students to assess their own essays

Classroom Considerations

  • Plan time for your class in the computer lab so they can get practice taking computer-based assessments
  • There are some minor differences in the questions found on the paper and online versions on the test; the reading passages are the same for both
  • A large-print version of the test is available for students with vision impairments, but depending on the capabilities of your school's printers, you may not be able to produce documents this size

Pros

  • Multiple choice questions include two parts, requiring children to cite textual evidence that supports their answers
  • A computer-based version of the assessment is provided along with a paper copy
  • Answer keys accompany both the online and printable versions of the test, as well as a generic rubric for assessing student learning

Cons

  • None
