Poetry analysis need not be a lugubrious exercise for young learners. The approach used with Denise Levertov's poem, "The Metier of Blossoming" is one of close observation, of noticing and reflecting on the words, phrases, and images the poet employs. The lesson begins with scholars watching a time-lapse video of an amaryllis growing. They then read Levertov's poem, list what they notice in the poem, and use their observations to compare the poem to the video.
