THE Founding Father

Who is the founding father—George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, or Benjamin Franklin? Scholars decide which of three early Americans, should be crowned the founding father of America based on research. Then, they compose a persuasive essay detailing their findings and opinion.

  • Assign the worksheet near the Presidents' Day holiday or when your class is investigating United States presidents
  • Attach a separate sheet of paper, or offer learners the chance to type their essay, if more space is needed than what's provided by the second page 
  • Encourage peers to share their essays and respectfully debate their decision

  • Pupils should be familiar with how to write a persuasive essay 
  • Presidents' Day is held on the third Monday of February
