Within three nutrition-themed, inquiry-based learning opportunities, pupils take notice of their eating habits; delve deep into the five food groups, gain experience in planning meals, participate in a taste test, and explore ads from the food industry. All of these support learners in the process of making smart food choices, and allow them to reflect upon their experiences through a variety of hands-on activities.

  • Pose applicable discussion questions on a classroom blog to gain participation from all scholars

Classroom Considerations

  • Schedule time in the computer lab, or on mobile learning devices, on days technology is required
  • Take classroom allergies into consideration prior to bringing in food so not to cause a reaction
  • Coordinate with cafeteria personnel to plan days the class goes to the school kitchen or speaks with the chef

Pros

  • Learners choose to show what they know through a list of projects for each lesson
